Medico-Legal Experience

Dr S M Javaid brings his extensive experience across neurorehabilitation, brain injury, spinal rehabilitation and the management of complex rehabilitation cases to his growing medico-legal practice. He also completed medico-legal training in 2022. 

Clinical Experience

Dr Javaid is an Acting Consultant in Neurorehabilitation at the Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit in Bristol. In his current role, Dr Javaid oversees a 20-22 bed inpatient unit with junior doctor support, conducting consultant-led ward rounds, leading weekly case conferences, and participating in family and specialist spasticity meetings. His skills in advanced interventions, such as ultrasound-guided Botox injections for spasticity, suprascapular nerve blocks, and intra-articular injections, enable him to provide comprehensive care tailored to individual needs.

Previously, Dr Javaid served as a Locum Consultant in Neurorehabilitation at RNI Community Hospital in Inverness, Scotland, where he led a 10-bed spinal rehabilitation unit, facilitating goal-setting and care planning for patients with complex needs. He also held a locum post at the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre, managing both inpatient and outpatient care for spinal injury patients and collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams including spinal, urological, and radiological surgeons.

Dr Javaid’s career spans diverse clinical settings across the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, where he has held substantive roles in general and geriatric rehabilitation. His breadth of experience, gained through working in world-class rehabilitation units, enhances his approach to patient care, equipping him to deliver holistic, high-quality treatment for individuals at every stage of their recovery journey.

Dr Javaid is not currently listed on the Specialist Register; however, his extensive experience in neurorehabilitation and diverse clinical settings equips him with the skills and expertise to deliver high-quality care in his current roles.

Special Interests

Dr Javaid’s special interests include Polytrauma, Prolonged Disorders of Consciousness (PDoC), shoulder pain syndromes and Spasticity management. He belongs to an esteemed faculty of medical leaders who believe in encouraging a positive approach to learning, development, audit, research and have a level of commercial awareness to maximise efficiency within their organisation. Dr Javaid thrives in driving appropriate interventions to promote health among the cohort of neurorehabilitation patients in the face of multiple co-morbidities and increasing elderly population.
