Our First Member Event
06 December 2016
On Wednesday 16 November NNRC held our first member event at Fieldfisher solicitors in London. The aim of the day was for our members to get a chance to meet one another, share experiences and give us a bit of feedback about how the Chambers has been working for them.
We were lucky enough to have Jill Greenfield, Partner and Head of Serious Injury at Fieldfisher give an in depth presentation on what a solicitor is looking for in an expert report. Bill Braithwaite QC also attended as a special guest and gave a presentation on what makes a good expert report from a barrister's perspective. Our own Managing Partner, Mike Barnes, gave a presentation about ‘The Good, The Bad and The Ugly’ reflecting on his 30 plus years of experience in the industry. All the sessions were followed by lively Q&As.

Key learning points from the day for experts
•Reports should be succinct, and only address areas that are within the remit of the expert.
•An expert's basic duty is to remain objective and independent, regardless of whether they are instructed on behalf of the claimant or defendant.
•Experts must be able to demonstrate a degree of litigation literacy, it is important that they familiarise themselves with the legal system as they may be required to give evidence in court.
•Experts should be pro-active and ask for feedback on their reports.
