Medico-Legal Experience

Neurology Speech and Language Therapist Expert Witness Claire MacLaine has an extensive background in clinical practice. Claire brings her experience in neurological rehabilitation, brain injury, complex disability and case management to her growing medico-legal practice.

Claire has completed Bond Solon expert witness training, including Excellence in Report Writing, Written Evidence and Courtroom Skills Training in 2026. Her clinical background supports clear, practical opinion on communication, swallowing, rehabilitation needs, functional impact and long-term therapy requirements in complex neurological cases.

Clinical Experience

Claire currently serves as the Rehabilitation Case Manager for multi-trauma in Scotland and the north of England and is the Brain Injury Lead at Health and Case Management since October 2019. Prior to this, she held significant roles including Clinical Lead and UK wide Company Trainer at Hamberley Care Homes and Therapy Lead st Elysium Neurological. 

Claire graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in speech pathology and therapy in 1995. Claire undertook a module from an MSc in Health Promotion at Aberdeen in 2014 and engaged in MPhil research in inference disorder and social problem solving after brain injury at the University of Strathclyde.

Her extensive experience includes working as a Team Lead Speech and Language Therapist in Essex, and as a Speech and Language Therapist at a traumatic brain injury rehabilitation unit in Lanarkshire. Claire also coordinated community speech-language therapy as a Change Fund Coordinator for NHS Grampian and volunteered as a researcher for AFASIC Scotland in Dundee, liaising with parents of children with communication disorders.

Special Interests

Claire is an active presenter at community workshops and conferences, focusing on the neuroscience of communication disorders and social skills. In addition to her skills indicated on this profile, Claire is experienced in head and neck oncology and surgery, learning difficulties and challenging behaviours.
