Dr MacAden’s career in rehabilitation medicine spans more than 20 years of experience in community and hospital-based work, a large portion of which was in an academic rehabilitation department of one of the premier medical schools in India.

A large proportion of Dr MacAden’s work has been with people with spinal cord injury and acquired brain injury, and he helped develop one of the first clinical gait laboratories in India.

Since moving to work in the Scottish Highlands, Dr MacAden has been involved in the integration of stroke and rehabilitation in Raigmore Hospital which offers inpatient services with 30 beds, a rapid access outpatient service for stroke and community and rehabilitation services to almost all the remote and rural areas of the Highlands.

Dr Peter Cleland MBBChir FRCP has been a Consultant Neurologist at Sunderland Royal Hospital and Newcastle General Hospital since 1994.

Dr Cleland’s expertise includes the whole range of neurological conditions – including head injury, whiplash and low back pain, nerve injury, Epilepsy, Post-traumatic neurological syndrome, multiple sclerosis, memory problems and dizziness.

Dr Cleland has extensive experience medico-legal experience, writing both for the claimant and defendant and has carried out between 50 and 100 reports each year since 1984. Dr Cleland attended the Crown Court at Durham and Newcastle on many occasions and has frequently given evidence in Sunderland Magistrates Court.

Dr Cleland has also carried out a number of research projects in the fields of epilepsy, headache vascular disease and tropical medicine.


Crawford – Pamela, Dr

Dr Pamela Crawford is a Consultant Neurologist specialising in neurodisabilities, complex head injuries, seizure disorders and epilepsy.

Dr Crawford will see both adults and children over 12, though will prepare reports about younger clients regarding their prognosis in respect of epilepsy and neurological problems when they reach adulthood. With regard to medical negligence claims, Dr Crawford will prepare reports only where the negligence is related to a client’s seizure disorder or its medication or a head injury.

In her role at York Hospital, Dr Crawford managed patients with acute severe head injuries after transfer back from a neurosurgical centre or on admission to hospital as there was no rehabilitation specialist service in York.

Fathers, Edward – Dr

Dr Edward Fathers, MB BChir (Cantab) MA FRCP, is a Consultant Neurologist. After completing training at Cambridge University and St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, Dr Fathers qualified in 1990, before becoming a Consultant in 2000. He now works at Musgrove Park Hospital and Yeovil District Hospital, part of Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, combining neurology outpatient clinics with the running a 15-bed inpatient neurology unit.

Dr Fathers is the specialist lead for multiple sclerosis in Somerset. His experience also includes working with the general medical Council and the National clinical assessment service (NCAS) undertaking fitness to practice assessments. He has senior management experience, which includes working as the clinical director in medicine at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.

Dr Fathers brings over twenty years’ experience to his medico-legal practice, where he specialises in neurology, and rehabilitation for MS patients.

Expert Witness Neuro Therapist

Our neuro therapists specialise in assessing and treating movement disorders stemming from neurological conditions or injuries. Neuro-physiotherapists use techniques such as gait training, balance and coordination exercises and neuromuscular re-education with the aim of restoring movement patterns, reducing pain and improving outcomes.  Speech and Language Therapists help to improve a person’s ability to form speech, understand language, and process the information they receive through verbal communication. Neuro-occupational therapists provide cognitive assessment and intervention, sensory processing and integration, fine motor skills training, adaptive daily living training, social and emotional regulation strategies. Assistive Technology Experts provide specialist insight into rehabilitation with assistive technology, including prosthetic rehabilitation, orthotics, wheelchairs and other mobility equipment and aids to communication and environmental controls.

Ella is a Brain Injury Case Manager with 30 years of experience working with people with disabilities, and 19 years as a practising case manager. Ella has worked with both young people and adults pursuing litigation, and those who have private or statutory funding, and post settlement clients. Her collaborative and pragmatic approach to working with clients and their families is aimed at enabling them to achieve their goals and do whatever it takes to enhance their quality of life. Ella has the following Expert Witness skills and experience:

Kudhail, Michelle – Ms

Ms Kudhail is a neuro-physiotherapist specialising in acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury and other neurological conditions.

She is skilled in managing the complex physical needs of patients following severe brain injury, spinal cord injury and stroke and supporting patients with progressive conditions.

Ms Kudhail is also experienced in spasticity management, non-medical prescribing, orthotics, gait analysis and balance rehabilitation.

Matthews, Andrea

Consultant Occupational Therapist and Advanced Practitioner of Sensory Integration

BIOGRAPHY

Andrea Matthews MSc BSc qualified as an Occupational Therapist (OT) with an MSc in Occupational Therapy from the University of Derby in 2011. She is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and is a member of the British Association of Occupational Therapists (BAOT). She also has a BSc in Psychology, gained in 2004 from the University of Wales, Bangor.

She has completed comprehensive postgraduate qualifications in sensory integration with the University of Ulster and Sensory Integration Network to earn the title Advanced Practitioner of Sensory Integration. She is also a Rebound Therapy Practitioner (therapeutic use of trampolines).

Andrea has over 20-years of experience working with people with acquired brain injury. She began as a Rehabilitation Support Worker, before working as an Assistant Psychologist and then progressing to Assistant Manager of a 25-bedded residential rehabilitation service. She went on to train as an OT and has continued to work in the field of brain injury rehabilitation ever since. She has also worked as a Case Manager, supporting adults and children with acquired brain injuries.

Andrea specialises in acquired brain injury, dyspraxia, Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and sensory processing and integration difficulties. She works with both adults and children across different settings, including the client’s home, residential rehabilitation services, schools, workplaces, the community and in clinics.

She has experience of carrying out a wide variety of standardised and non-standardised assessments, writing comprehensive reports, providing Ayres Sensory Integration Therapy, Rebound Therapy, cognitive rehabilitation, functional therapy interventions and recommending equipment and adaptations.

Andrea set up an independent Occupational Therapy company in February 2014. In January 2017 she co-founded an interdisciplinary therapy company specialising in neurological rehabilitation with three like-minded therapists from psychology and speech therapy backgrounds. She remains a Director of both companies. In January 2018 she set up a Sensory Integration and Therapy Clinic in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. Andrea leads a team of specialised occupational therapists across the Midlands and North of England, and also supervises a number of occupational therapists from other organisations.

Graeme has extensive clinical engineering experience including fourteen year’s experience working in various roles within the Regional Medical Physics Department, Bioengineering and Rehabilitation Engineering disciplines. Graeme has spent the last 14 years specialising in electronic assistive technology and has been responsible for helping develop Regional and National NHS provision around this technology.

Graeme has conducted a number of assessments and expert witness reports within this specific discipline.
