Medico-Legal Experience

Dr Jessica Colenutt is a Clinical Neuropsychologist specialising in detailed neuropsychological assessments and generating medico legal reports for cases involving brain injuries, ranging from mild to severe. Her evaluations are crucial in legal contexts involving personal injury, catastrophic damage, and medical negligence, as well as in determining mental capacity concerning health and welfare, financial decisions, and legal competencies.

Dr Colenutt accepts instruction in civil law cases where Clinical Neuropsychology expert witness services are required by the court. Medico legal reports and opinions can be prepared on personal injury cases, medical negligence cases and assessment of mental capacity. Dr Colenutt has completed the recommended specialist training in the provision of expert opinion for the courts through Bond Solon.

Clinical Experience

Dr Colenutt works as an Expert Witness and at Totus Neurorehabilitation, carrying out neuropsychological assessment and treatment of individuals with traumatic or acquired brain injuries. Her work is integral to litigation claims, where she provides cognitive rehabilitation and evidence-based therapies as part of comprehensive, community-based neurorehabilitation programmes.

Concurrently, she also serves at the North Bristol NHS Trust Neuropsychology Department, where she has been employed since October 2021. Her duties there involve conducting neuropsychological assessments for a wide array of neurological conditions that impact cognition and behaviour. She supports neurosurgical interventions, assists in evaluating surgical outcomes, and plays a key role in diagnostic decision-making processes. Her therapeutic approaches often focus on helping patients adjust to and manage symptoms associated with neurological diagnoses.

Previously, from October 2018 to September 2021, Dr Colenutt was a Trainee Clinical Psychologist at the University of Bath. Her training included core placements in Adult and Paediatric Mental Health, Learning Disabilities, and Dementia Assessment, where she applied neuropsychological theories to assess and understand cognitive functions in various conditions, including chronic mental health issues, neurodevelopmental disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases.

Special Interests

Her specialist interests are traumatic and acquired brain injury, mild head injury and post-concussion syndrome, functional neurosurgery and early onset atypical cognitive disorders.

Memberships of Professional Bodies

Dr Colenutt is a Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC) registered and British Psychological Society (BPS) Chartered Clinical Neuropsychologist, with recognition on the Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists.
