Medico-Legal Experience

A medical expert witness since 2008, Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine Dr Abhijit Mate specialises in stroke, brain injury and complex neurological disabilities including Guillain-Barre syndrome and multiple sclerosis.

In addition to his extensive experience, Dr Mate has completed numerous Expert Witness training courses. Dr Mate is happy to receive instructions from Solicitors representing the Claimant, Defendant or as a Single Joint Expert.

Clinical Experience

For the last 20 years Dr Maté has led a multi-disciplinary team based at the Neurological Rehabilitation Unit in St Michael’s Hospital in Truro. He is also an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Exeter Medical School.

A stroke specialist, Dr Mate treats patients with traumatic brain injury, ischaemic and haemorrhagic stroke, subarachnoid haemorrhage and provides treatments including thrombolysis and thrombectomy.

He also supports patients with spinal cord injuries, hypoxic brain injury and cerebral infections such as meningitis and encephalitis and following neurosurgeries, as well as patients with Guillain Barre Syndrome and Multiple Sclerosis.
