Medico-Legal Experience

Qualified from both Cambridge and Oxford Universities, Dr Simon Shaw is a highly experienced Consultant Rehabilitation Physician. His extensive medico-legal experience encompasses the preparation of Condition and Prognosis reports for a diverse range of cases. He offers expert insights into spinal injury and conditions affecting amputees and individuals with limb differences, both in children and adults.
In his reports, Dr Shaw prioritises clarity and conciseness while also striving to offer the court a comprehensive understanding of the patient’s journey towards recovery, independence, and a higher quality of life. His reports meticulously detail an individual’s prognosis, care requirements, and the rehabilitation needed for their future well-being, aiming to provide the court with invaluable insights into each case.

Clinical Experience

Since 2023, Dr Shaw has worked as the Clinical Director of the National Spinal Injuries Centre (NSIC) and Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.  The NSIC is the largest and most famous spinal cord injury centre in the UK, and looks after both children and adults. He is also the Clinical Lead for the South East Spinal Cord Injury Network.
Previously a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine on the Lane Fox Respiratory Unit at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, Dr Shaw specialised in managing neurological and physical disability including amputee rehabilitation, polio and post-polio syndrome rehabilitation and other neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy, neuromuscular diseases, and spasticity from all causes.
He also worked as the lead clinician at the Bowley Close Rehabilitation Centre for assistive technology including Amputation and Prosthetics, Orthotics, Specialist Seating, and the Assistive Communication service, treating both adults and children.
In addition to spinal injury, Dr Shaw is passionate about prosthetics, an area in which very few Consultants specialise in the UK for both children and adults. He is also a registered Osteopathic Physician.

Dr Shaw provides assessments and condition and prognosis reports for:

  • Spinal cord injuries for both children and adults
    Limb loss, Amputations and Prosthetics for both children and adults
  • Cerebral palsy including considerations of life expectancy
  • Polio and Post Polio Syndrome
  • Complex Orthotics provision
  • Traumatic and Musculoskeletal Injury including peripheral nerve injury
