Medico-Legal Experience

Dr Alex Satchwell is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with over a decade of experience in adult mental health and trauma-focused services. He specialises in expert witness reports for personal injury, clinical negligence, and mental capacity cases, including those involving PTSD, bereavement, psychosis, and enduring psychiatric illness. He accepts instructions from claimant, defendant, and joint parties and is listed on the British Psychological Society’s Directory of Expert Witnesses.

His reports draw on years of frontline NHS and private sector clinical experience and are informed by advanced training in CBT for psychosis, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and Compassion-Focused Therapy. He has completed the full BPS expert witness training programme and produces clear, impartial reports for the court.

Clinical Experience

Dr Satchwell is Director of Seven Hills Psychology Ltd and remains clinically active as a psychologist specialising in adult mental health. His NHS roles have included Principal Clinical Psychologist with the Intensive Home Based Treatment Team at South West Yorkshire NHS Foundation Trust and Senior Clinical Psychologist in Crisis Resolution and Early Intervention Psychosis teams across Yorkshire and the Midlands.

His work has focused on crisis care, severe and enduring mental illness, early psychosis, bereavement, and trauma. He has delivered complex assessments and long-term psychological interventions across a wide range of settings, including inpatient and community teams, and is experienced in managing high-risk and complex presentations.

His academic background includes a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Leicester, an MSc in Psychological Research Methods, and a Postgraduate Certificate in CBT for Psychosis from King’s College London.

Special Interests

Dr Satchwell’s specialist areas include adult mental health, severe and enduring mental health, trauma/PTSD, complex trauma and adjustment disorder.

He is a specialist in psychosis, capacity assessments, and complex bereavement, including suicide-related loss. He is skilled in the assessment and treatment of adult survivors of trauma and those presenting with distress linked to life-changing injury or loss.
