Medico-Legal Experience

Dr Alex Goody is a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist with over 30 years’ experience as an expert witness, having provided expert neuropsychology reports for the courts since 1993. She provides expert neuropsychology reports for the courts in cases involving adult neurological illness and injury, including personal injury claims, medical negligence and family proceedings.

Dr Goody is instructed by both claimant and defendant lawyers, with an approximate claimant to defendant split of 60:40, and has provided oral evidence to the Court on three occasions.

Her medico-legal expertise includes acquired brain injury, traumatic brain injury and the neuropsychiatric consequences of neurological injury. She also undertakes Mental Capacity assessments across a range of issues, including capacity to conduct litigation, manage financial affairs, make health and care decisions, make a will, consent to sexual relations and marry.

Clinical Experience

Dr Goody has over 30 years’ experience in clinical psychology and neuropsychology. She qualified as a clinical psychologist in 1992 and retired from the NHS in 2021 after a 32-year career.

Since 2017, she has been Director of Cheviot Neuropsychology Ltd, providing independent neuropsychological assessment and expert opinion. Following her NHS retirement, she also held an Honorary Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist role supporting research activity at Walkergate Park.

From 2009 to 2021, Dr Goody was Professional Lead for Neuropsychology Services at Walkergate Park, the Centre for Neurorehabilitation and Neuropsychiatry, within Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Mental Health Trust. This role included clinical and professional leadership across inpatient and outpatient services, including slow stream neurorehabilitation, neurobehavioural services, neuropsychiatry, community acquired brain injury services and neuropsychology input to secondary mental health care.

From 2005 to 2021, Dr Goody provided clinical input to the Regional Neuropsychiatry Service, working with patients with a wide range of neurological conditions and neuropsychiatric symptoms. Earlier in her career, she worked extensively with brain-injured clients through the Northumberland Head Injuries Service, supporting people with cognitive, emotional and behavioural difficulties following acquired brain injury.
