Medico-Legal Experience

Clinical Neuropsychologist Dr Blanca Poveda has completed expert witness training and accreditation through Bond Solon at the University of Aberdeen.

A brain injury specialist, Dr Poveda provides expert witness reports and testimony for cases involving traumatic and acquired brain injury, neurorehabilitation and stroke in adults.

Clinical Experience

Dr Poveda is currently the Director and Clinical Neuropsychologist at Edinburgh Neuropsychology and Lead Clinical Neuropsychologist for the South East of Scotland Major Trauma Centre, NHS Lothian. Dr Poveda holds a research fellowship into confusion in acute brain injury.

She is responsible for the cognitive, behavioural and emotional assessment of patients admitted to the head-injury trauma service in NHS Lothian. In her private practice, she conducts private therapy, including CBT, ACT & EMDR, with individuals following an acquired brain injury, stroke or functional neurological disorder; as well as complete assessment for treatment and expert reports.

Dr Poveda also has a range of teaching and research responsibilities, and clinical roles prior to her current positions. She served as the Strategic Manager for the development of PAVES across NHS Lothian, focusing on enhancing epilepsy services through psychology from 2020 to 2021. Dr Poveda has also contributed as a Lecturer and course lead for the Clinical Neuropsychology Module on the MSc program, as well as honorary lecturer for both University of Glasgow and University of Edinburgh doctoral courses.

During her tenure at NHS Lothian, Dr Poveda was the Lead Clinical Neuropsychologist at the Acquired Brain Injury Service at Astley Ainslie Hospital in Edinburgh from 2014 to 2020, where she managed both inpatient and outpatient brain injury services. Dr. Poveda held the position of Lead Clinical Psychologist at Lanfine Service from January to April 2019, and worked as a Clinical Psychologist with the Adult ADHD Resource Team at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital between 2014 and 2017. Her experience further includes a role as a Clinical Psychologist at the Community Brain Injury Rehabilitation Services in West Lothian from in 2015.

Social Cognition, Delirium, Post-Traumatic Amnesia, Concussion, Disorders of Consciousness, and Neurodegenerative Conditions.
