Medico-Legal Experience

Expert Witness Neurologist Dr Edward Fathers is a highly experienced medical expert, bringing valuable courtroom experience to his medico-legal work.

Dr. Fathers has been providing medical legal expert reports since 2017, currently producing approximately 100-120 expert medical reports per year. Approximately 85% of his work is for the claimant, with the remaining 15% for the defendant. He specialises in medical legal expert reports for personal injury and medical negligence.

In March 2025, Dr Fathers provided expert evidence to the High Court in  London. Feedback from the instructing solicitors described him as “an exceptional witness giving clear, understandable, cogent evidence which was accepted by the judge.”  They added, “We would certainly recommend him as an expert witness.”

Dr Fathers has attended court to provide expert opinion in support of a coroner’s inquest and has also acted as a professional witness in one  medico-legal case within the family court.

Dr Fathers has enhanced his proficiency in the medicolegal sector through specialised training. His commitment to continuous learning and his active involvement in producing medical reports make him a well-rounded expert witness.

Clinical Experience

Dr. Fathers brings over 25 years of experience as a consultant neurologist to NRC Medical Experts. He specialises in general neurology with a particular interest in multiple sclerosis.

After completing training at Cambridge University and St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, Consultant Neurologist Dr Fathers qualified in 1990, before becoming a Consultant in 2000. He worked at Musgrove Park Hospital and Yeovil District Hospital, part of Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, combining neurology outpatient clinics with running a 15-bed inpatient neurology unit. Dr Fathers served as the lead for multiple sclerosis services in Somerset from 2005 to 2022. He has senior management experience, which includes working as the clinical director in medicine at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton. His experience also includes working with the general medical Council and the National clinical assessment service (NCAS) undertaking fitness to practise assessments.

Since 2000, Dr. Fathers has been conducting general neurology outpatient clinics in NHS hospitals and private practice. Currently, he is working part-time as an NHS consultant.

Special Interests

Dr Fathers specialises in all aspects of neurology and rehabilitation for MS patients, and was the the lead clinician in Somerset for the administration of disease modifying therapies for multiple sclerosis.
