Medico-Legal Experience
Dr Mary Antoun has been involved in medico-legal work for the past three years, preparing expert witness reports for both claimant and defendant cases. Her expertise in rehabilitation medicine, acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury, and complex neurological conditions allows her to provide detailed assessments and prognosis reports.
She has undertaken specialist training in medico-legal report writing, including the Bond Solon Excellence in Medico-Legal Report Writing course (2024).
Clinical Experience
Dr Antoun is a highly experienced Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine with over two decades of expertise in neurological rehabilitation, prosthetic rehabilitation, and complex spasticity management. She recently served as a Locum Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine at Leicester General Hospital (2022–2024), leading care for Level 2A neurological rehabilitation patients and Level 1 prolonged disorder of consciousness (PDOC) patients. In this role, she conducted neurorehabilitation and spasticity clinics, overseeing inpatient care for individuals with severe neurological injuries.
From 2006 to 2022, Dr Antoun was a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, where she played a vital role in the management of complex neurological conditions, including acquired brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, and degenerative neurological diseases. She was part of the major trauma team, contributing to the rehabilitation of patients following catastrophic injuries. Dr Antoun led weekly spasticity clinics, neurorehabilitation clinics, and prosthetic rehabilitation clinics, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to optimise patient outcomes.
Dr Antoun has also held several locum consultant positions in rehabilitation medicine at Morriston Hospital, Swansea (2005–2006) and Hazelmere Rehabilitation Unit, Surrey (2004–2005), where she provided specialist neurological and prosthetic rehabilitation. Her training includes a Specialist Registrar role at London South Deanery (1999–2004), where she worked at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability, Queen Square Hospital, and St George’s Hospital.
Her leadership roles include serving as Head of Service at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, where she implemented a multidisciplinary discharge summary system to improve continuity of care. She also developed and delivered an ultrasound-guided Botox injection course, enhancing clinical training in spasticity management.

- Guillain–Barré Syndrome (GBS) – Experience in the rehabilitation of patients with GBS, including management of mobility, respiratory function, and long-term neurological recovery.
- Chronic Fatigue Syndrome – Experience leading rehabilitation programmes for patients with chronic fatigue syndrome.
- Prolonged Disorders of Consciousness (PDOC) – Experience in assessment, management, and rehabilitation of patients with disorders of consciousness, including minimally conscious and vegetative states.
- Prosthetic Rehabilitation – Skilled in assessing and managing amputee patients, including phantom limb pain and prosthetic suitability.
- Spasticity Management – Advanced expertise in Botulinum toxin injections, physical therapy, and pharmacological interventions for spasticity.
