Medico-Legal Experience

Dr Sumit Das is a Consultant Anaesthetist with specialist expertise in adult and paediatric anaesthesia. He provides expert opinion in clinical negligence cases and has completed the Bond Solon Excellence in Report Writing course. Dr Das is a case reviewer for the General Medical Council (GMC), assessing adult and paediatric anaesthetic practice.

He accepts instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors. His medico-legal reports are grounded in active NHS and private practice, and informed by his leadership roles in guideline development, governance, and training.

Clinical Experience

Dr Das has been a Consultant Anaesthetist at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since 2006, where he was previously Clinical Lead for Paediatric Anaesthesia. He is currently Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee at Nuffield Manor Hospital, Oxford.

He provides anaesthetic care across a wide range of surgical specialties in both adult and paediatric settings, with particular expertise in:

  • Paediatric craniofacial and neurosurgery
  • Interventional radiological procedures
  • ENT, ophthalmic, and cosmetic surgery
  • Emergency and high-risk cases in children and adults

Dr Das completed a prestigious fellowship in paediatric anaesthesia at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA, and trained in anaesthesia in the Wessex Deanery. He is regularly involved in multidisciplinary surgical teams for complex craniofacial procedures and has published extensively in this field.

He has contributed to national guideline development, including the Royal College of Anaesthetists’ Guidelines for the Provision of Neuroanaesthetic Services and several safety standards for the British Association of Perinatal Medicine. He continues to shape national anaesthetic policy through his elected role as President Elect of the Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (APAGBI).
