Louisa Sweetman is a highly skilled Clinical Specialist Neurophysiotherapist with over 20 years of experience managing complex neurological conditions across acute, rehabilitation, and community settings.

Louisa brings her extensive experience in neurological physiotherapy to her growing medico-legal practice.

Clinical Experience

Her career spans roles in both the NHS and private sectors, delivering exceptional care to individuals with a wide range of neurological challenges, including acquired brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, stroke, and functional neurological disorders.

Currently, Louisa provides advanced neurorehabilitation at Heads Up! Neuro-rehab Ltd, where she specialises in comprehensive assessments and tailored treatment plans for conditions such as Stroke, Acquired Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, Guillian Barre Syndrome, spinal injuries and neuro-oncology. Her expertise includes using adjuncts such as neuromuscular electrical stimulation, kinesiology taping, and clinical Pilates, alongside advanced vestibular and facial rehabilitation techniques.

Louisa previously served as a Team Lead at the Wolfson Neurorehabilitation Service, where she managed inpatient and outpatient neurorehabilitation teams across St George’s Hospital and Queen Mary’s Hospital. Her responsibilities included coordinating multidisciplinary care, leading orthotics clinics, and providing external specialist training to other clinicians on gait biomechanics and splinting and casting, alongside lecturing to Undergraduate Physiotherapy Students at St Georges’s University. Earlier roles at St George’s and University College Hospital further enhanced her skills in neurorehabilitation, respiratory care including tracheostomy weaning, and spasticity management.

Committed to excellence in care, Louisa combines her advanced clinical skills with a patient-centred approach, ensuring the best possible outcomes for individuals at every stage of their rehabilitation journey.

Special Interests

  • Highly Specialised Neurorehabilitation – using advanced clinical reasoning skills and a wide range of treatment approaches to deliver individualised rehabilitation to a wide range of complex neurological conditions.
  • Functional assessments and treatment plans – working with clients to empower them to achieve meaningful goals that will impact positively on their day to day life.
  • Gait Analysis and Orthotic Intervention – ran a Specialist Neurological Orthotics Clinic with an Orthotist, working closely with the Gait Laboratory and Spasticity Clinic to provide specialist orthoses to ensure optimised gait biomechanics in both acute and community neuro rehabilitation patients.
  • Spasticity Management –  worked both in and alongside spasticity Clinic services providing expert  assessment, advice and recommendations to medical colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
  • Supporting patients with cognitive or communication impairments to access neurorehabilitation – extensive experience in collaborative MDT working, managing patients with challenging behaviour and cognitive problems.
