Medico-Legal Experience
Expert Witness Psychiatrist Dr Muhammad Gul is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with specialist expertise in the assessment and treatment of children and young people with emotional, behavioural, learning, social and communication difficulties, and complex neurodevelopmental disorders.
Dr Gul’s experience includes child and adolescent psychiatry, adolescent inpatient care, adolescent psychiatric intensive care, eating disorders, neurodevelopmental services, adolescent forensic services and early intervention services. He has undertaken medico-legal training in child psychiatry through the Royal Society of Medicine, including forensic and civil medico-legal training.
Clinical Experience
Dr Gul is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at St George’s Hospital, Stafford, within Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, where he has worked as a consultant since 2012. He is responsible for the delivery of evidence-based care and services within the local Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service.
His clinical work includes the management and treatment of young people within adolescent inpatient services, including an acute adolescent inpatient unit, adolescent psychiatric intensive care unit and eating disorder unit. He provides clinical leadership and consultation to members of the multidisciplinary team in complex cases.
Before his consultant appointment, Dr Gul held specialist registrar roles across adolescent community services, early intervention services, adolescent acute inpatient care, day services, PICU, adolescent forensic inpatient services, neurodevelopmental services and family and young person services. His earlier psychiatry training included adult psychiatry, old age psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, addiction services and assertive outreach.
Dr Gul has held a range of clinical, academic and leadership roles within the NHS. He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Keele University and has served as Director of Medical Education, Trust College Tutor and Clinical Lead for children’s services. His research and academic work includes psychiatry, medical education, trauma, PTSD, adolescent mental health and neuropsychiatric conditions.
