Medico-Legal Experience
Mr Pal Lakshmanan is a highly experienced Consultant Spinal Surgeon who has been working in the medico-legal field since 2010. He provides independent expert evidence across a wide range of orthopaedic cases, with subspecialist expertise in spine-related matters.
His medico-legal practice is mainly focused on personal injury litigation and clinical negligence work, including causation, condition and prognosis. He prepares approximately 20 reports each year, with a claimant to defendant split of around 70:30.

Clinical Experience
Mr Lakshmanan is a Consultant Spinal Surgeon with a broad orthopaedic background and specialist expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of spinal conditions. He has been a Consultant Spinal Surgeon at Sunderland Royal Hospital since 2010 and has also held a private practice consultant role at Spire Washington Hospital since 2011.
His practice covers spinal conditions affecting the spine from the occipitocervical junction to the coccyx. He treats degenerative cervical and lumbar spine conditions, thoracic spine pathology, spinal trauma, spinal tumours, spinal infections, inflammatory spinal conditions and osteoporotic spinal disorders.
Mr Lakshmanan has particular expertise in minimally invasive and microsurgical spine techniques. His surgical practice includes decompression and fusion procedures, anterior and posterior approaches across the cervical, thoracic and lumbosacral spine, disc replacement and fusion surgery, percutaneous disc procedures and interventional spine management.
He also provides care for ageing spine and osteoporotic spinal conditions, including vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, lordoplasty and cement-augmented pedicle screw fixation in selected patients. In addition to his spine practice, he undertakes work across orthopaedics, particularly in general orthopaedic trauma.
